About Us
HISTORY
The Schenectady Theater for Children started in 1967 and became independently incorporated in 1976. From eight performances in that first year, it has since grown to a present season average of thirty performances for a total audience of approximately 9,000 children. In 1992 STC became a repertory theater company.
From the beginning, the goal of STC has been to bring our shows to area schools at no cost to the children or their parents. To accomplish this, the acting and technical work is done solely by volunteers. Funding to cover the cost of transportation, costumes, scenery, makeup, props royalties and director/producer stipends is provided in part by grants, school donations, parent-teacher organizations, and by tax-deductible memberships.
STC draws heavily upon the talents of the local community not only for financial support, but also for actors, crew members, original costume and set designs, original music and scripts.
